Improving Maternal and Child Health

Ensuring Safe Motherhood

At IFSA Africa, we have been working to improve maternal and child health by expanding access to essential healthcare services before, during, and after pregnancy. Through community outreach, health education, and partnerships with public and private health providers, we help women overcome barriers to care and access lifesaving maternal and newborn services.

Our work focuses on reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths, promoting family planning, and improving access to antenatal and postnatal care in underserved communities.

Building on this foundation is a telehealth program to reach families in remote arid and semi-arid regions where access to healthcare is limited.

Through telehealth, mothers will receive timely advice, consultations, and referrals without long travel—ensuring faster access to the care they need.

With your support, we can bring quality maternal healthcare closer to every mother, wherever she lives.

Food Security

Creating Food-Secure Communities

At IFSA Africa, we believe nutrition is the foundation for healthy mothers, strong children, and thriving families. Food security is critical to pregnancy outcomes, child development, and overall family well-being.

Our approach is built on three key pillars:

  • Food availability: Ensuring families have consistent access to sufficient nutritious food.
  • Food access: Helping households obtain affordable, healthy foods to support balanced diets, especially for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
  • Food use: Promoting good nutrition practices, hygiene, safe water, and maternal and child feeding education.

Through community gardening, sustainable farming, and nutrition education, we empower families to grow food, improve maternal nutrition during pregnancy, and support healthy child growth in early life.

By strengthening food security, we are improving the health of mothers and protecting children.

Education

Girl Education and Child Protection for a Brighter Future

At IFSA Africa, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe, supportive environment. Education is a powerful pathway out of poverty, and protecting children is essential to ensure they can fully benefit from it.

Through our Girl Education & Empowerment programs, we support girls to stay in school and successfully transition from primary to secondary and tertiary education. We work to remove barriers such as poverty, early marriage, and cultural constraints that limit educational opportunities.

Alongside this, our Child Protection initiatives safeguard boys and girls from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harmful practices. We work with communities, schools, and local leaders to strengthen awareness, reporting systems, and protective environments, ensuring every child is safe at home, at school, and in their community.

By marking key milestones such as African Child Day, we reinforce our commitment to children’s rights and to equal access to education. In partnership with local leaders and government stakeholders, we advocate policies that protect children and create pathways for them to reach their full potential.

When children are educated and protected, families become stronger and communities become more resilient.

Empowerment

Women Empowerment

At IFSA Africa, we believe that empowering women is essential to building stronger families and healthier communities. We work directly with women at the community level to strengthen their independence, leadership, and capacity to create sustainable livelihoods.

Through training, mentorship, and access to resources, we support women in improving their economic opportunities, making informed decisions for their families, and taking active leadership roles in their communities. Empowered women are better able to provide for their children, support education, and contribute to improved health and wellbeing at the household level.

When women are empowered, families grow stronger—and entire communities thrive.

Community Health

Ending Jigger Infestations and Improving Wellbeing

At IFSA Africa, we believe true health equity begins with meeting people where they are. Many families in underserved communities continue to suffer from preventable conditions, including jigger infestations, which undermine dignity, mobility, school attendance, and overall quality of life.

Through our community health outreach programs, we bring essential care directly to homes and villages, identify affected individuals, provide treatment, and educate families about prevention and hygiene. Our approach not only treats jiggers but also addresses the underlying conditions that enable the spread, including limited access to clean water, sanitation, and health education.

By working closely with communities, we foster a culture of dignity, prevention, and long-term wellbeing, ensuring children can attend school without stigma and families can lead healthier, more productive lives.

Together, we are restoring dignity, improving health, and helping communities end preventable suffering.
